Choosing a Traditional Tiered Fountain for Your Garden
18 July 2026 · Geoffs Garden Ornaments · Fountains

A tiered fountain is one of the most recognisable features you can add to a garden — the gentle sound of water cascading from bowl to bowl, a real focal point whether it sits at the centre of a formal lawn or tucked into a quiet corner of a patio.
Two ways to install one
Our traditional range comes in two forms: above-ground feature fountains, which sit directly on a patio or level base with no digging required, and in-ground easy-assembly fountains, where the pool surround is set into the lawn for a more permanent, integrated look.
Neither needs a constant water feed — every fountain in this range simply recycles whatever water you add to the pool, topped up occasionally as it naturally evaporates.
Picking the right size
A good rule of thumb: the fountain and its pool surround should feel proportionate to the space around it, not to the garden as a whole. A small courtyard suits a compact two-tier design; a larger lawn can comfortably carry a taller three-tier fountain with a wider pool.
- Small gardens and courtyards: a two-tier fountain with a single pool surround
- Medium gardens: a three-tier fountain, small or medium pool surround
- Larger, more formal spaces: a three-tier fountain with a large double pool surround
Getting the sound right
Every fountain in this range is supplied complete with the relevant pump, liner, and pipework — but the pump itself is worth thinking about, not just the fountain. A larger pool holds more water and can run a stronger pump, giving a fuller cascade; a smaller pool suits a gentler flow, which is often what you actually want if the fountain is near a seating area.
